There's a new ABC tv series called Galavant and I was watching the trailer and just noticed so many Merlin locations. I always get excited about stuff like that! I was able to spot Caerphilly and Cosmeston Medieval Village and I'm sure I'm missing a lot. Anyway, it looks completely ridiculous. But in a good way.

5 friends, 2 dogs (named Merlin and Arthur *lol*) and I went to Wales from 6th - 13th July to hunt down some Merlin filming locations. As anticipated, there wasn't much to note in terms of locations in ep 303 Goblin's Gold, as the episode centred in the castle, and used the Chateau and the sets in Cardiff. However, Geoffrey's library was seriously extended, so I'm sure he was happy about that!

So there are these online Schmap tourist guides at www.schmap.com subtitled 'beyond the map', featuring different locations worldwide, one of which is Cardiff. And apparently they use Flickr as a source of local photos.

I recently visited Wales for 2 days and saw 6 filming sites. I wouldn't recommend more than that, although some of them are very close to each other. As someone from the US, driving on the left side was 'fun' but I got used to it. The narrow roads - not so much. But it was well worth the trip ( Read more... )
